BBC Royal Charter Review
Inquiry
The Culture, Media and Sport Committee is inviting written submissions on the future of the BBC as part of a new inquiry into the Royal Charter Review.
The review of the BBC Charter, which sets out how the broadcaster is governed, regulated and funded, takes place about every ten years. The current process started with the launch of the Government’s consultation in December.
To help shape the next Charter, which is due to come into effect at the start of 2028, the Committee is now launching an inquiry on the future purpose, governance and funding of the corporation ahead of making its recommendations to the Government.
The deadline is: Friday 17 April 2026.

State of Play: We want to hear from you
The Culture, Media and Sport Committee wants to give everyone across the world of culture, media and sport the chance to suggest themes or sectors that we should look into. What difference could a one-off committee session make to your work? Let us know.
We will be considering:
1 Whether this is a topic that falls wholly or mainly within the responsibility of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport
2 Whether the Committee, Government or other relevant body has recently undertaken work on this topic
3 What impact the Committee and Government can have in dealing with the issues being raised
4 The breadth of support from the relevant sector(s)
5 The urgency of any potential action
6 Whether the proposal can be considered effectively in a single evidence session
This form will be open until 23:59 on Tuesday 19 May 2026 and is available here
